THE VIEW FROM OUR KITCHEN TABLE...

JUNE 2008

What a challenging month of weather! We have experienced excessive rain, minor flooding and ponding in the fields, and strong straight-line winds and tornadoes. Since the end of May, every time it almost dried enough to work in fields, we were blessed with rain. While crop conditions here are less than ideal, our thoughts and prayers go out to others in Iowa and the midwest who have severe flooding, loss of homes, businesses and farmsteads, and loss of life.

The bulls are in the pasture and we have completed A.I. for this season. This is the time of year when we monitor growth and productivity of our calves and cows. We are also giving calves their first round of vaccinations. Herd health is one of our priorities.

The cattle industry is a consumer driven market. Profitability for the cattle producer depends on producing a desirable product at the least cost. Consumers at every level want a quality product and producing a quality product doesn't just happen, it takes management and forethought. Time changes and so has the cattle industry. We can't continue to do things the way we always have and still remain profitable!

Thanks for your interest in our cattle and we welcome your inquiries and visits. We are honored by the confidence and loyalty our new and repeat patrons have in our cattle.
